This isn’t some tablet-like toy that will disappoint your kids.  The Fire HD Kids Edition tablet is the latest-generation Fire HD tablet, wrapped in a kid-proof case.  Amazon is so sure of the protective abilities of this case that they’ll replace the tablet for free if the kid manages to break it.  The Fire HD has a quad-core processor, HD display, front and rear-facing cameras, and Dolby Digital Audio.  Parental controls, which Amazon says are the best-in-class, allow you to define profiles for each of the children who’ll be sharing the tablet; you’ll define screen time limits, educational goals, and age-appropriate content for each child.  (Designed for children ages 3-10.)  Included in the purchase price is a 2-year worry-free guarantee for device failure or accidental damage and a 1-year subscription to Amazon FreeTime Unlimited with unlimited access to 5,000 age-appropriate books, movies, TV shows, educational apps, and games.  The Kids Edition is available with a 6″ screen ($149) or 7″ screen ($189) and your choice of a blue, green, or pink kid-proof cover.  Amazon is accepting pre-orders now; the Fire HD Kids Edition will be released October 21, 2014.
